The great thing about Thursday Cottage today is that the ingredients, the open pan cooking and our products' distinctive taste and character are much the same as they were when the company was founded in 1963.

The company was founded by Swiss born Kurt Kunzli and his Somerset born wife Jill. It was from their home in Spaxton, Somerset, using a recipe of Jill's mother, that marmalade making began in earnest and little by little the brand 'Thursday Cottage' became valued and appreciated within the health food and independent trade sectors.
The seal of success for Kurt and Jill was achieved in 1988 when their Orange Marmalade gained the top award by a panel of marmalade lovers in the Sunday Times 'Tried and Tested' competition. It was shortly after this that Kurt and Jill decided to hang up their wooden spoons and sell their beloved business.

Hugh and Pam Corbin took ownership of Thursday Cottage in 1989 and threw themselves deeply into the jam pan to learn both the art of making the best marmalade in the world and to expand and widen the sales of the outstanding range of marmalade and jams.

This they achieved and within a decade Thursday Cottage preserves could be found and appreciated by food lovers all over the world in delicatessens, fine food halls and farm shops.
After much soul searching and deliberation, Hugh and Pam sold Thursday Cottage in 2002, knowing the brand and the quality was assured under the new owners, Wilkin and Sons of Tiptree.

Today Thursday Cottage is based on Trewlands Farm in Tiptree, Essex. The company still operates a small production unit where a variety of different preserves, curds and marmalades are made by hand.
We take great care in the choosing of our ingredients and grow a variety of traditional and unusual fruit ourselves. All our products are made in small batches in open pans where they are gently stirred and steadily cooked for up to fifteen minutes, depending on which product we are making.

Pam remains heavily involved in recipe development and makes regular visits to the factory to oversee production and to help us constantly improve upon the preserves we make.

We also continue to win food awards in the annual 'Great Taste Awards'. These, and the warm accolades we frequently receive from our customers, are well deserved of all the Thursday Cottage team.
